Peggy’s Trail takes you across varied terrain in a cool part of the foothills. It has a few different personalities: some fire road, some new-school bench-cut singletrack, and some older legacy singletrack crafted by cattle and human foot traffic. The “Peggy’s Curvy Body” segment is a particularly fun downhill. Bikers often loop Peggy’s with Chukar Butte and Cartwright Road.
Recent Trail Reports
- May 14, 2023 at 4:45 pmTrail is in surprisingly good shape at the moment, given how much abuse it is known to get from hoof prints. Upper creek crossing is tricky right now, as it is running very high.
- August 9, 2022 at 5:00 pmTrail is dry and rideable but set your suspension on soft since the cattle have left their hoofprints in the wet and now those areas are dry with lots of depressions and bumps.
- June 17, 2022 at 11:44 pmOne problem with this trail, is it takes longer to dry out than people realize. Nearly a week after the rains there were still some muddy stretches in section near Connie junction. Also, portions of the Dry Creek valley section were nearly as unrideable as the "Lava Rock" sections of Chucker Butte and Sw. Connie trails- (you guys know what I mean)- due to very extensive hoof damage.
- November 1, 2021 at 5:27 pmAs of Oct 31, there were a few muddy spots, lower Dry Creek valley section was rather bumpy and hoofed up but otherwise not too bad. (However I expect it's quite a bit muddier as of today- Nov 1.)
- June 20, 2020 at 6:42 amRuts from runoff from recent storms, people riding when wet, and cows.
- May 23, 2020 at 10:25 amNot smooth any more, the cattle have destroyed long sections of Peggy’s and Chukar ?.
- April 20, 2020 at 2:45 pmTrail is great. Looks like some work was done and it is smooth and fantastic.

Trail is great. Looks like some work was done and it is smooth and fantastic.
The good news is that some of the hoof damage and ruts have been mitigated as it dried out. Some sections are mildly bumpy but otherwise its not bad.
The BAD news: Severe erosion has washed away the banks of the upper creek crossing, making it unrideable and its now necessary to portage across the creek. This is fixable, but will take a lot of grunt work once the creek flow drops.
Peggy’s is in bad shape after the rain. Long ruts from the top of Cartwright all the way down to the creek.
After the bridge, the section following the creek is just terrible. Horse hooves at least a foot deep into the mud, tire tracks, footprints. Would not recommend
Rode Peggy’s and Chuckar and only a couple of spots near the Connie junction. Trail is in good shape.
Could plainly see from the road yesterday that the initial climb is muddy – but that wasn’t stopping two cyclists from riding it as I watched. Give it a rest or ride when frozen.
Peggy’s and Chukar – all good today.
Got caught in a rain/hail storm this morning (10 am) on Peggy’s and the trail surface turned to slick mud that caked our tires and bikes.
Probably won’t take much, but it needs a little drying out.
All puddles now dried up. Fairly clear of ruts and tracks.
Hiked from Cartwright to Sweet Connie junction, a few muddy spots but you can hop over most of them. Looks like the cows must have been through there yesterday, a couple of torn up spots but nothing awful. My mileage ended up at 4.95 one way, wondering if the trail marker starts at a different place (instead of across the road from the Cartwright parking lot?)
Excellent shape except for the East side near Daniels creek where there is the perma-puddles. But easily ridden through.
Excellent shape right now, tacky dirt and some small wild flowers popping up.
It appears people have abused poor Peggy’s a bit the last few days when the temps went up. It really needs a rest unless you get out while frozen.
Feb 17- Long mud patches on the north facing sections
Rode Sunday, Feb 11 – solid with most of any wetness down at the creek level.
Rode it yesterday and a few soft spots but nothing to feel guilty about. Stay on the trail and ride through them.
I rode Peggy’ s to Chuckar Butte today with assumption I would have to turn around at some point. It was fantastic! 3 or 4 small mud puddle sections , which you should ride through.

Pretty darn good from Cartwright until you swing around into the Daniels Creek drainage, approximately .5-miles from Sweet Connie junction. Much wetter and lots of puddles there so turned around. Still got some nice mileage in to that point.
Started from Cartwright TH and the first mile or so was ok. But Encountered mud near the river and turned around.
Stay off Peggy’s for now, unless things are good and frozen.
