Eastside is a fun, forested singletrack and the backbone of the Shafer Butter trail network. Beloved by hikers and bikers alike, Eastside offers abundant shade, a few small features for bikers (optional log rides and small jumps), and occasional encounters with wildlife, including black bears. The worst thing about Eastside is that once you reach the bottom, grinning from ear to ear, you realize you’ve got to climb out one way or another. Unless, that is, you’re lucky enough to be shuttling, in which case the fun continues on Sweet Connie.
Recent Trail Reports
- November 15, 2021 at 10:31 amI rode Eastside yesterday and it was excellent! Did an out and back starting at New Freddie's Rock trail where it crosses Bogus Rd. Lots of hikers and bikers on New Freddie's but only 2 of each on Eastside. I did not go back up to Bogus Rd at the north end of Eastside. Hero dirt the entire trail with no mud! One tree down on Eastside near the middle switchbacks. 18 miles total. You gotta ride this before the snow falls!

- May 2, 2020 at 9:09 amFirst quarter of East side is a mess. Tons of trees and snow. You’ll hike more than ride. The rest of it is good with a few tree falls and snow patches. Freddy’s is primo. Freddy’s to Connie > Eastside to Connie
- December 18, 2019 at 1:44 pmThe lower part, between Entrance Exam and the top of Connie, is well packed. Beyond the fork at Entrance Exam, there were no tracks and the snow was too deep to ride.

No trees to deal with, except for the first 20 feet in from the road there’s a tree you can ride around. Snow disappeared a week ago.
Just a few trees and snow patches in the top 1/3. Mostly rideable.
