AKA Hero Dirt. Yes, your ideal conditions that you want to hit up first before any of your friends find out. Sure you want to keep it low key, but be a good trail steward and let your buddies know its time to shred.

Freestone Ridge is popular with bikers and joggers because it is a nice option for mid-length rides and longer runs. It climbs from Military Reserve up to the middle foothills. As a downhill, it is scorching fast, with wide open sight lines. As an uphill, it feels like interval training, with steep scrambles followed by flatter plateaus. Often looped with Sidewinder.

  • Maddog April 23, 2022 at 12:56 pmI rode up there yesterday as well. I thought it was sheep sh#%. I didn't see any horse hoof prints at all. A herd must have crossed the trail a day or two prior. I saw some near Watchman last year about this time. Man was it windy up there yesterday!

    Freestone is completely dry!

    Freestone had 2 or 3 puddles/muddy spots

  5. pneisen says:

Getting sandy, chopped up, and loose.

  6. rocketman says:

Snow only adjacent to a couple of sections, deep pool of water in only one section, remember to ride THROUGH not around!

  7. sam says:

Fine when frozen this morning, but probably shouldn’t ride above 31º because of the muddy sections toward the bottom.

  8. heavy_braker says:

I would stay away unless solidly frozen. Lots of mud and ice at the bottom. Deep snow drifts toward the top.

  9. pneisen says:

Loose and sandy. Riding like late summer right now.

  10. bewsurf22 says:

Riding fast, but loose in the corners and it has already started to dry out a bunch. Watch out for ruts due to the rain storms we have had. Can make riding fast precarious.

  11. pneisen says:

Riding so good after the little bit of rain we got.

  12. WhiteWizard says:

Lower portion of the trail is in great condition, gets wet with snow patches around 4000′. Turned back at the flats prior to the climb to fat tire trail junction.

  13. ramihz says:

The top 1/3 has long stretches of snow, and the steep bit before Fat Tire is icy

  14. AllezXC says:

Complete with all the usual ruts and one easily avoidable puddle. The lower half is excellent

  15. kimlyons says:

Just the one puddle in the usual spot…get some!

  16. olliemule says:

Primo conditions with the exception of one puddle.

  17. kimlyons says:

    One small puddle is all
